Today I've learned that a long term regular member and ex-team member of the vBulletin Fans community and wetalk.network has passed away.

Despite that Joe and I have broken our friendship, he's always been a friend and this news does not go unnoticed or without emotion. I will miss him, and I am sure lots of others will too.

In this thread I want to explain the difference between the official wetalk.network (WTN) community contests, and the fun but unofficial WTN forum games.

WTN Contests

These are contests started by our team, where you can participate and win great prizes.

You can find the official contests here: Contests - wetalknation.net.

The threads that are closed are old (ended) contests or competitions. And the thread that's at the top and open is the currently active one (or recently closed, but we still allow people to post congratulations, etc).

Members can not start competitions, only participate (and hopefully win!)

WTN Games

These are the games started by our team, or other members. Everybody can start a thread with a fun game and participate. You play for glory, for fun, or reputation points. Every now and then our team rewards a game starter (or winner) with extra karma points or free premium memberships.

User-boards for Everybody

We've introduced something unique: User-boards!

Normally we would make forums and put staff in them, and together with the members we're building the content. We decided to do something else.

Give back to our members who participated already on our site, and offer the option for them to start a sub-forum on our site, of which they will become Mayor. The Mayor can pick the topic-, description of the forum, and has Mayor privileges (equal to moderator).

Our contest winner Isosceles has started a wetalk.town called Web-coders corner, and we've invited our 250,000th post author Ryan Ashbrook to make one, and he created ImperialBB's forum. User-boards are listed at the bottom of omgboards.com :)

Featured Thread: If you owned a shop?

Our moderators always keep an eye open for active members that post good content, but once in a while we notice a topic that just stands out. They then recommend these topics as a featured topic, this time: "If you owned a shop?". Congrats! And thank you Dude111 for posting, 250 karma points are added to your profile.

By the way, every member can start their own public topic in any of the network sites, and other users can leave comments. A great place to start a topic is in the Introduction Forum: Member Introductions - omgboards.com

If you browse around the WTN every once in a while, you might have noticed a new topbar topic "web". This community topic is created for newcomers and advanced users who are interested in everything web related. Blogs, wiki, forum software, writing your own html/css code, discussing web sites or social networks.

Recently we've acquired a new community called therogueforums.com, the members are good people, and are making great topics. Instead of their community being shut down the owner and I came to an agreement to help continue their community. They're adding 250,000 active topics to our network.

These new communities help you find something you like, help you find new friends, and are a great contribution to our network. We're looking forward seeing them active and we're hoping you will come take a look. If a topic is missing, feel free to click the button 'New Topic' to start a new conversation.

Account Features Explained

As a member you are getting more privileges as you are active.

We count activity based on being online, being active by writing new topics and posting to existing ones, or based on positive karma (reputation) points.

An example:

A guest can register for an account.

A new user who signs up, will have no private message options, or permission to set a signature, will not get a custom avatar, but can make new topics and post replies.

A member can upgrade their account to premium.

A user with 1 or more posts, therefor, active, will get private message privileges, can select an avatar, set a signature, and can make new topics and post replies.

A premium user (paid or those with 100+ posts), will get an unlimited private message quota, can upload a custom avatar, have images in signatures, and gets access to additional private forums.

A premium member could get invited to join the moderator team.

How do I get a Premium Membership? (for free)

Using our network is completely free, and that won't change. Even our premium membership is free.

Registered members who have a post count that is above 100, will automatically get upgraded at no cost to the premium membership.

Another option is a one time donation, or a one time paid subscription. This is very much so optional. And totally up to you.

This is a reward system for those who support our network, a partner site, a donating user, a member paying for a paid subscription. Instead of asking them to make a 100 posts first, we bump them up to a premium membership.

In short:

If you can wait, and make a 100 posts, you get free premium membership.
If you can not wait, or want to support our network with a donation or paid subscription, you get a premium membership.

Is this free? Short answer: Yes

Browsing as a guest, or search engine bot

As a visitor to our site you're free to browse our topics, unfortunately due to the Internet being a spam haven (boy we hate spam!) we can not permit guests to post to conversations without signing up first.

In return we train our team members to fight spam to keep our forums clean, making it a comfortable experience for registered members.

Signing up

As a visitor you are always invited to sign up for an account. A big black register button is listed at the top, in the header, from where you can register for an account. Fill in some basic information, such as your desired username, your valid and active email address, and a secret private password.

This is completely free!

After verifying your email address, you can start writing new topics, and post replies to existing topics.

We have extensive documentation "getting started" for guests and members, explaining the network, the sites, the forums, the topics, and how to use our features.

But is it completely free?

Yes, at no time will we force any member to sign up for a paid subscription to continue using our site.

This does not mean we do not have a donation button, or a paid subscription for premium content. But, it is completely optional. We're very transparent about this. Users with 100+ posts for example, upgrade to this premium account for free. As a reward for their contribution.

Welcome to the community: We Talk Network, also noted down as wetalk.network, and in short: WTN.

This community is open and free, everybody can register at no cost. And either create new content, build their own profile, have their own blog, and build a social connection with other members. Or participate in already existing conversations, blogs, etc.

The network is about a variety of topics, that .. we .. talk .. about.

Our variety of topics range from media, to development, from offtopic to tech. With urls such as : wetalk.tv, wetalkmovies, wetalkmusic.net, and thenewtech.com, wetalkweb.net, therogueforums.com, and many more.

Every community site (a topic) lets you login with your WTN account. So you have 1 profile. Which is great, you can be interested in movies, and post on the movies section, without the disruption of content from the games section. While still being connected and in touch with your friend, who might not be interested in movies, but posts on the music or games forum.

Your profile, your blog, your content, and your friends, are all available on all the sites on the network, we're all one nation, one community.

Over time we build new sites, acquire new communities to merge within ours, and expand where needed. Over time we might merge a few of our existing sites into a bigger niche, but we will never delete the content, or delete accounts.

In short: What is the WTN community?

A fun community with great members, and we have some great content. Conversations and blogs you can write or participate in, and we have a variety of topics available. Something for everybody! All under one profile.

Why do we do it this way?

Because we personally do not like to sign up 10 times, for 10 web sites, and get 10 newsletters, and have 10 groups of friends, and have 10 blogs. We want a social network with social connections, one newsletter, one profile, and one blog, etc.

Behind the scenes this allows us to fix a bug, and have it fixed on all the sites. Release a new feature or option, and it becomes available on all the sites. Add a new community, and introduce new members and new conversations, improving rich and active content for everybody. We have one team, instead of many, and we all know our members and our sites. We can do more for our members, our sites, our community, with less management, while keeping the costs low. This benefits us, and our members.

So browse around, pick a topic (or two), and start posting new content, or find content you like and participate in it. We are building not just a forum, but a personalized profile for you. Well I go to log into TRF and am directed to this thread, informing me that TRF is now part of We Talk... so hi! I can't say I'll be terribly active here (I'm not terribly active anywhere except work) but I'll stop by when I can.

I guess I'll tell you all about myself... I'm Red Rebel, also known as Red, Rebel, RR.... Sweet Pea... and Ryan. I'm 19, working in construction.. I like video games, even though I have Game ADD. I skip around from one game to the next sometimes even throwing board games into the mix. Hm...... I'm "conservative", Christian (yes, I act like it- and on all days not just Sunday), and pretty light hearted and I try to be humorous. I guess that's all I'll say for now, see you guys around!
