Our sponsor viper.uk.net received a notice from their data center that the server will shortly be closed down. This was unforseen news and we had to act quick. The sponsor quickly moved our accounts over to a new server at a different data center and informed me while he was moving over the data.
I've updated the configuration files from the ircd hub, services hub, and the leaf ircd servers. And started the new hub on the new server, and after a short test it seemed to be fine. So I've started the new services and it connected fine and did not seem to have any missing data. So I restarted the leaf ircd chat servers and they connected to the new hub. The users online experienced a 3 second downtime, and after a reconnect everything was back to normal. I've requested the DNS to be updated for the old hub to the new hub and when this was done I've shut down the old hub.
We're moved! server irc.vbulletin-chat.com has a new IP.
Consequence: A bit of unexpected downtime, but resolved quickly thanks to the excellent service from viper internet (
http://www.viper.uk.net)
And if you connect and get a connection refused you have to simply try again. We use round robin dns, meaning if one IP doesn't load, you will get another and that one will work. If the IP does not work it means your computer or your ISP has not updated from the old 66.x IP to the new 74.x IP yet. This should resolve itself within 72 hours.
Upside: We're on a bigger server. We have better routing, more resources, and faster hardware.
